Prospero Teaching a fantastic Mentor to provide consistent, positive support to a 9-year-old child who is currently finding the classroom environment challenging and is at risk of permanent exclusion (PEX). The mentor will help build the child’s confidence, self-esteem, and engagement through activities that reflect their interests-particularly castles, kings and queens, and painting. A strong, trusting relationship with a positive adult role model is key to helping this child make progress.
As a Mentor, you will: *Establish a safe, trusting, and positive relationship with the child.
*Plan and deliver engaging sessions based on the child’s interests (e.g., castle-themed art projects, storytelling, creative play).
*Support the child’s emotional well being and social development.
*Encourage self-expression and confidence through creative and imaginative activities.
*Provide a calm and consistent presence to help the child regulate and feel secure.
About you: Essential:
*Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
*Creative and imaginative approach to engagement.
*Strong communication, patience, and empathy.
*Ability to commit to regular weekly sessions.
*Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable:
*Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches.
*Experience in mentoring, youth work, youth support, 1:1 roles or experience within UK schools.
