SEN Teaching Assistants – Specialist Primary Setting
Location: Barnsley
Contract Type: Full-time & Part-time roles available
Start Date: Immediate / Ongoing
Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking to make a real impact in a nurturing and inclusive school environment? We are recruiting for a specialist primary setting in Barnsley that supports pupils with Autism, communication and interaction needs, and other complex learning profiles.
This school has recently received a Good rating from Ofsted, with inspectors praising its calm and purposeful atmosphere, strong staff-pupil relationships, and high expectations for pupil achievement. Parents are overwhelmingly positive, describing their children as "thriving" and "flourishing" in the setting.
About the Role:
You’ll be working with pupils who have high levels of need, supporting their learning, emotional development, and independence. You’ll be part of a skilled and compassionate team committed to helping every child succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
*Deliver 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
*Use specialist strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and sensory approaches
*Support pupils with personal care and mobility (training provided if needed)
*Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using Team Teach techniques
*Collaborate with teachers and therapists to implement EHCPs and learning plans
Essential Requirements:
*Experience working with children with high-level SEND needs
*Understanding of Autism and communication difficulties
*A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
*Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable (but not essential):
*Training in PECS, Makaton, Team Teach, or Moving & Handling
*Experience in a specialist school or alternative provision
