SEN Teaching Assistants
Location: Wakefield
Contract Type: Full-time & Part-time roles available
Start Date: Immediate / Ongoing
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with additional needs? We are currently recruiting experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to join a dedicated team in a specialist SEND school in Wakefield, catering for primary-aged pupils with Autism, communication and interaction needs, and other complex learning requirements.
About the Role:
You will be supporting pupils with high levels of need, helping them access learning in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. The role involves working closely with class teachers and other professionals to implement tailored strategies that promote engagement, independence, and progress.
Key Responsibilities:
*Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism and communication needs
*Assist with the implementation of EHCPs and individual learning plans
*Use specialist strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and sensory-based approaches
*Support pupils with personal care and mobility needs (training provided if needed)
*Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using Team Teach techniques
Essential Requirements:
*Previous experience working with children with high-level SEND needs
*Understanding of Autism and communication difficulties
*A nurturing, patient, and resilient approach
*Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable (but not essential):
*Training in PECS, Makaton, Team Teach, or Moving & Handling
*Experience in a specialist school or alternative provision setting
