Category Manager Hybrid working (2–3 days in Derby office)
Up to £52,000 base salary

Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be partnering with a leading Public Sector transport organisation based in Derby in the search for an experienced Category Manager.
This is a fantastic permanent opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to take ownership of the fleet and transport-related categories, managing both end-to-end strategic sourcing and ongoing supplier relationships to deliver maximum value, compliance, and efficiency.
As a Category Manager, you will: * Act as the procurement expert for all fleet-related categories – including vehicles, maintenance, parts, fuel, leasing, and associated transport services.

* Develop and lead category strategies that drive best value, sustainability, and innovation across the fleet supply base.

* Manage strategically important supplier contracts, ensuring consistent performance and continuous improvement.

* Lead the full tender process – from market analysis and strategy formulation to negotiation and award – ensuring value for money, competitive terms, and compliance with the Utilities Contract Regulations 2016 and company procedures.

* Work cross-functionally with operational and technical teams to support effective fleet management and supplier engagement.

* Ensure all procurement and contracting activities comply with UK legislation, industry standards, and internal governance.

* Monitor and report on supplier performance, implementing corrective actions where necessary.

About You: * Proven experience as a Buyer, Senior Buyer, or Category Manager with a focus on fleet, transport, or automotive categories.

* Strong track record in managing end-to-end tenders – from supplier identification and RFQs through to negotiation and contract management.

* Excellent understanding of procurement regulations and compliance (knowledge of UCR desirable).

* CIPS qualification (or working towards) is advantageous.

* Public Sector experience is desirable but not essential.

* Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management and supplier relationship skills.
