Job Description:
SEMH Teaching Assistant – Sutton
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children? We’re looking for compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as SEMH Teaching Assistants in this school where SEMH is the main need and there are usually only 6 - 8 students on site at one time.
You’ll be supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them thrive both academically and personally. Every child you work with will have their own unique strengths — and your support will help them build confidence, resilience, and a love of learning.
The Role as an SEMH Teaching Assistant
*Provide Personalised Support: Work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils, adapting lesson materials and learning approaches to meet their individual needs.
*Enhance Learning Experiences: Support classroom teachers in delivering creative, engaging lessons tailored for SEMH support.
*Promote Positive Behaviour: Use proven behaviour management strategies to encourage positive interactions and help pupils develop social and emotional skills.
*Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support teams to monitor progress, celebrate achievements, and ensure every child receives the right support.
What We’re Looking For:
*A genuine passion for supporting children with SEMH needs.
*Empathy, patience, and excellent communication skills.
*Previous experience working in a special needs or primary school setting (advantageous but not essential).
*A proactive, flexible team player who thrives in a supportive and dynamic environment.
*A strong commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of every child.

We are Engage Education, the UK’s most trusted education recruitment agency, committed to supporting your career every step of the way.
What we offer:
