Title: Trading Manager
Reports to: Trading Manager
Location: Harrow, London
Work Pattern: 35 hours per week.

Purpose of Role
Develop, implement, and review a category plan that leverages scale and efficiency with suppliers to reduce the cost of goods, optimise terms, and improve profitability, while maintaining the security of supply and delivering measurable benefits to the Group.
Negotiate volume/time-driven contracts in line with the Distribution centres to ensure strong availability and efficient logistics.

Negotiating national terms
First lead in the negotiation in their category, with strategic planning support and coaching from the line manager
Prepare presentations or communications that would be presented to the RDC’s with Line manager support to reach alignment/sign off
Support the day-to-day work of the Assistant Trading Manager (ATM) with reference to the Senior Manager or above to ensure ATM is developing skills and is an asset to the department
Delivering National income budget
Forecasting for all schemes with an understanding of potential risks and engaging with relevant stakeholders to resolve and manage associated impact
Category Reviews – if relevant
Main trading lead for own category reviews with support from line manager
Lead project to agree national supplier strategies and core ranges, in conjunction with wider CO Teams, to incorporate format strategy
Work to achieve consensus and agreement from RDCs
Lead negotiations with the supply base with lead RDC trader- model and report the impact of agreements to ensure commercial benefit?
Promotion Management
Develop a compelling promotional plan for each category, ensuring it is relevant and competitive. Support the marketing themes/ selling plan where possible to deliver category growth and enhanced profitability
Recognise opportunities to increase promotional investment/ key monies and negotiate agreements with suppliers
Manage the supply base to maximise "right first time" submissions
Liaise with RDC contacts to achieve buy-in of plan/ positive results, escalate where needed
Supplier Management
Able to assess the strengths/ weaknesses of suppliers in own categories using SWAT analysis
Develop help/ harm plans recognising the impact of different outcomes
Positive working relationships at relevant levels
Create strategies to improve supply in conjunction with the line manager for problem suppliers
Seasonal Buying
Identify potential seasonal (Christmas/ Easter etc) product opportunities in own category where a full seasonal strategy is not required
Develop robust exit and clearance strategies.
Scope interest from RDCs and secure volumes from suppliers where required
Capture and report competitive seasonal activity
Cost price Management "CPI"
Take accountability of negotiation of cost price increases and ensuring timelines are optimal in issuing to RDC’s.
Managing stakeholders in the process so they are informed of the increase throughout the process.
Strong understanding of cost drivers and context of the market dynamics from competitors to commodity influences
Product availability
Leads across a category and can manage complex issues with limited support/escalation
Has strong market and product awareness and can foresee upcoming impacts of changes as cost drivers or sales/availability impact. ?
Updates stakeholders accordingly and works through mitigation plans

Degree or equivalent training in Business/ Administration
Experience

*Experience of analysing and interpreting data
*Experience of prioritising/ planning workload and working to deadlines
*Has worked within large teams for a recognised brand
*Has experience of successfully working with multiple stakeholders
*Has/is working for a recognised brand with at least 2-3 years of successful negotiation experience
*Has successfully negotiated with multiple stakeholders
Desirable
*2-3 years working in a fast-paced office environment
