Records Management Officer
*Daily Salary: £127 per day
*Location: Bexleyheath
*Job Type: Temporary (6 months), Hybrid, with potential to become permanent
We are seeking a Records Management Officer (RMO) to join our Finance & Corporate Services team in Bexleyheath. This role is crucial for the effective and compliant management of the Council’s records and information throughout their lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have experience in records management or a strong administrative background with relevant experience.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Support the implementation of the Council’s Records Management Framework by following and promoting approved procedures and standards.
*Apply and maintain the Council’s Retention and Disposal Schedules, ensuring records are retained or securely disposed of at the correct time.
*Help maintain consistent file structures, naming conventions, and metadata to ensure records are logically organised and easily retrievable.
*Maintain accurate inventories of Council records, supporting audits and compliance checks as required.
*Coordinate the secure destruction or archiving of physical and electronic records, ensuring correct authorisations and documentation are in place.
*Assist with locating and retrieving records in response to information requests under FOIA, EIR, or data protection legislation, ensuring statutory deadlines are met.
*Support the transition to digital record keeping and the use of electronic document and records management systems (such as SharePoint or EDRMS).
*Raise awareness of good records management practice across the organisation, delivering briefings or providing one-to-one guidance where needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Experience in records management or a strong administrative background with relevant experience.
*Familiarity with Public Records Act (PRA), the Data Protection Act (DPA 2018), UK GDPR, and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
*Ability to apply records management principles in a clear and practical way.
*Proficiency in using electronic document and records management systems (such as SharePoint or EDRMS).
*Excellent planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
*Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
