Job Description:
Accountant
*Hourly Rate: £18.26p/h
*Location: Newcastle
*Job Type: Temporary (until Dec 2026)
My client is seeking a skilled Accountant to provide essential financial advice, guidance, and support to our directors, heads of service, and budget managers within the public sector. This role is crucial in helping them achieve their business objectives while effectively controlling and managing their resources.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Work closely with directors, heads of service, and budget managers to prepare and finalise revenue budgets and capital outturn positions.
*Prepare revenue and capital monitoring information, respond to queries, and provide necessary advice.
*Contribute to the production of statutory accounts, including preparing working papers for external audits.
*Develop, review, and maintain accounting records and financial systems.
*Provide support and advice on key financial systems and controls, including delivering relevant training to finance and non-finance staff.
*Undertake specified treasury management activities.
*Monitor and prepare financial reports in line with corporate and directorate information requirements.
*Complete government returns and claims and prepare working papers for external audits.
*Provide financial support and advice to corporate and directorate projects, including the preparation of business cases and business plans.
*Liaise with external bodies to produce and present required financial information.
*Provide technical support and advice to other finance staff as required.
*Promote and implement policies on Diversity, Equality, Equity, and Accessibility in all aspects of employment.
*Help maintain a healthy, safe, and secure working environment in adherence to organisational policies and procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Proven experience in financial management and accounting.
*Strong ability to advise and guide senior management on financial matters.
*Excellent knowledge of preparing statutory accounts and working with external audits.
*Ability to develop and maintain financial systems and records.
*Skilled in treasury management and financial reporting.
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
*Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
