Job Description:
The School Business Manager will play a key role in the strategic and operational management of the PRU, ensuring the effective use of resources to support high-quality education for pupils with complex needs. This role involves overseeing finance, HR, premises, health & safety, and administrative functions, enabling the Headteacher and senior leadership team to focus on teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management
*Lead on all aspects of financial planning, monitoring, and reporting in line with local authority and DfE requirements.
*Prepare and manage the annual budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
*Monitor income and expenditure, producing accurate monthly reports for the Headteacher and Governors.
*Identify opportunities for cost savings and income generation.
2. Human Resources
*Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and compliance with safer recruitment practices.
*Manage staff contracts, payroll liaison, and personnel records.
*Support performance management processes and staff welfare initiatives.
3. Premises & Health and Safety
*Ensure the PRU premises are safe, secure, and well-maintained.
*Lead on health and safety compliance, including risk assessments and emergency planning.
*Liaise with contractors and suppliers for building maintenance and improvement projects.
4. Administration & Compliance
*Manage administrative systems to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
*Maintain compliance with statutory requirements, including GDPR and safeguarding protocols.
*Support the Headteacher with governance and policy development.
5. Strategic Leadership
*Contribute to the PRU’s development plan and strategic priorities.
*Advise the leadership team on financial and operational implications of decisions.
*Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including the local authority and partner schools.
Person Specification:
Essential:
*Experience in financial and resource management within an educational setting.
*Strong understanding of HR processes and employment legislation.
*Excellent organisational and communication skills.
*Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
*Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
*Previous experience in a PRU or alternative provision setting.
*Relevant qualifications (e.g., School Business Management Diploma, CIPFA, or equivalent).
*Knowledge of SIMS/FMS or similar school management systems.
