Job Description:
Tractor Driver / Grounds Maintenance Worker
*Pay Rate: £13.26 per hr paye
*Location: Rochdale Council
*Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (2 - 3 months)
Rochdale Council are looking for a dedicated Tractor Driver / Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our team. This role is essential for maintaining the cleanliness, greenery, and accessibility of public spaces across the borough, ensuring they remain welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Operate tractors and various attachments such as mowers, trailers, snow ploughs, and gritters to support council services.
*Perform grounds maintenance tasks including grass cutting, hedge trimming, and managing verges.
*Assist with seasonal maintenance tasks like leaf clearance during the winter.
*Transport materials, equipment, and waste using council vehicles.
*Conduct routine checks and perform cleaning and minor maintenance on tractors and machinery.
*Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations and council policies.
*Collaborate with other council teams to deliver high-quality public services.
*Provide excellent customer service when interacting with the public.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Proven experience in operating tractors and related machinery.
*Valid UK driving licence (Category B essential, Category C1/C preferred).
*Knowledge of grounds maintenance, horticulture, and sports pitch maintenance operations.
*Ability to perform basic mechanical checks and maintenance.
*Strong awareness of health and safety practices.
*Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
*Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and during adverse weather conditions.
*Desirable: Qualification in Horticulture (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent), Pesticides application Certificate (PA1 & PA6).
Personal Attributes:
*Physically fit and able to handle the physical demands of the job.
*Reliable and eager to learn all aspects of horticulture.
*Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
*Willingness to work overtime as needed and in different parts of the borough.
