Litigation Solicitor
*Hourly Rate: £55 per hour via umbrella
*Location: Rotherham (Hybrid working)

We are seeking a Litigation Solicitor to provide expert legal advice and representation on litigation matters across all Council departments. This role involves managing a diverse caseload from inception to completion, including advocacy in various legal areas such as criminal and civil litigation, education law, employment law, and licensing.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Case Management: Conduct cases from start to finish, including advocacy in court and tribunals. Decide when to instruct external counsel and manage related arrangements.
*Legal Advice: Provide comprehensive legal advice to officers and elected members, addressing legal issues, policy implications, and legislative changes through written, phone, and in-person consultations.
*Representation: Act as the Council’s representative in court, inquiries, and tribunals, and serve as a legal adviser at Council boards, panels, and meetings.
*Team Support: Allocate work and provide guidance to junior staff or trainees. Deliver training on legal matters to members and officers.
*Compliance: Adhere to professional codes of conduct and GDPR requirements, promote equality, and work to eliminate discrimination.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation and licensing law.
*Proven advocacy skills in Magistrates Court, County Court, and Employment Tribunals.
*Proficiency in using legal IT systems.
*In-depth knowledge of local government processes and the political context.
*Experience advising senior officers and elected members.
*Capability to develop systems and deliver training.
*Must be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive Advocate with a valid practising certificate.
*Level 7 qualification (e.g., Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma).
