Positive Behaviour Mentor Required – School in Heathfield

An established independent specialist school in Heathfield is seeking a committed and compassionate Positive Behaviour Mentor to join its dedicated team. The school provides a nurturing and therapeutic environment for children and young people, secondary aged, with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced trauma, attachment difficulties or disrupted educational journeys.
Set in a peaceful rural location, the school offers pupils the opportunity to re-engage with learning through small classes, personalised support, and a focus on emotional wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively to create a sense of safety, belonging and achievement for every pupil.
The successful candidate will join a passionate team, where positive relationships and consistent boundaries are at the heart of every interaction. The Role*Support a range of vulnerable pupils from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, helping them access learning and develop positive behaviour strategies
*De-escalate challenging situations calmly and appropriately, using restorative approaches
*Implement effective behaviour management and emotional regulation techniques
*Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to build trust and engagement
*Provide regular feedback on pupil progress and wellbeing to staff and parents
*Full-time hours: 8.15am – 3.30pm, Monday to Friday
The Ideal Candidate*Outgoing, patient and emotionally resilient, with a genuine desire to help young people overcome barriers
*Able to think on their feet and adapt to the needs of each pupil and situation
*Skilled in building rapport and maintaining professional boundaries
*Enthusiastic and proactive, with a positive attitude and strong teamwork skills
*Holds GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent
*Experience supporting students with SEMH, attachment or trauma-related needs is desirable, though full training will be provided
This role would suit someone with experience in education, youth work, care, or mental health support — or someone looking to build a rewarding career in specialist education.
