Job Description:
Learning Support Assistant
*Hourly Rate: £15.55- £18p/h
*Location: South East London
*Job Type: Temporary Agency
*Contract End Date: 03/07/2026
*Hours per Week: 26 (Note: Lunch breaks are unpaid and should not be claimed on weekly timesheets.)
We are seeking a proactive and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at the South East London Campus. This role is crucial in providing support to young people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring their successful integration and progress in educational programs.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Assist in the educational and social development of learners under the direction of support managers and curriculum team leaders.
*Support the development of self-advocacy and independent learning skills among learners.
*Contribute to the assessment of students’ learning and personal progression, collaborating with relevant staff to develop person-centred support plans.
*Provide necessary support and assistance to learners for their personal care, safety, and well-being.
*Anticipate barriers to learning and participation, and develop intervention strategies to minimise these difficulties.
*Acquire a thorough understanding of, and be sensitive to, the learners’ needs and learning objectives throughout their study programme.
*Ensure that learners can access and fully utilise college support services and actively participate in college life.
*Manage and ensure the availability and operational status of specialist equipment, assistive technologies, and facilities as needed.
*Provide necessary supervision and support to learners with additional physical/medical needs.
*Report any mobility issues within the building and other safety concerns in accordance with college health and safety guidelines to support managers.
*Assist in reviewing learners’ progress in line with college policies, ensuring that individual support plans are updated and that teaching staff are informed of any barriers to learning.
*Liaise with external agencies such as parents and key workers when necessary, and forward relevant information to support managers.
*Attend meetings as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Experience in supporting individuals with SEN in an educational setting.
*Strong ability to work under the guidance of support managers and curriculum team leaders.
*Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and external agencies.
*Knowledge of educational support practices and sensitivity to the diverse needs of learners.
*Ability to develop and implement effective intervention strategies.
*Proficiency in managing and operating specialist educational equipment and technologies.
