SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full Time (Starting January)

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting that supports pupils with complex needs, including autism, communication difficulties, and challenging behaviour.
This is a full-time role starting in January, working on a 1:1 and 1:2 basis with pupils who require tailored support to access learning and develop positive behaviours. The school provides a nurturing environment for children and young people aged 11–19, focusing on personalised education and therapeutic approaches.
What We’re Looking For
*Proven experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour, ideally in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) or Alternative Provision (AP) setting.
*Team Teach trained – essential for this role.
*Ability to build strong, trusting relationships and implement behaviour strategies effectively.
*Resilience, patience, and a genuine commitment to helping pupils achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
*Implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.
*Work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning plans.
*Promote emotional regulation and positive social interactions.
