About the Role
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs? We are looking for experienced and compassionate individuals to join a specialist education setting as a SEN Teaching Assistant.
This role is ideal for those with backgrounds in:
*Schools (mainstream or special education)
*Support work (including residential or community care)
*Dementia care or other health and social care environments
If you have experience supporting individuals with complex needs and want to transfer your skills into education, this could be the perfect opportunity.
What You’ll Do
*Provide one-to-one and group support for pupils with autism, severe learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and complex medical needs.
*Use communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or assistive technology to help pupils express themselves.
*Support pupils with personal care and mobility needs where required.
*Work closely with teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals to deliver a personalised curriculum based on EHCP targets.
*Promote independence, emotional well-being, and positive behaviour.
*Create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
Who We’re Looking For
*Experience in care or support roles, such as dementia care, residential support, or SEN schools.
*Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
*Strong communication and teamwork skills.
*A caring, empathetic approach with a genuine desire to help others succeed.
*Willingness to learn and adapt to new strategies and techniques.
Desirable Skills
*Knowledge of autism and sensory needs.
*Familiarity with EHCPs and personalised learning plans.
*Moving & handling experience.
