Job Description:
Garment Technologist
*Contract Type: 12-Month Fixed Term (Maternity Cover)
*Location: Preston (Hybrid after 6-month probation period)
*Salary: up to £33,000 (DOE)
Reed is on the hunt for a Garment Technologist to join a product development team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role involves supporting the creation and progression of all products, ensuring the accuracy of garment specifications, and improving sample accuracy. The successful candidate will provide essential administrative support, manage data, and facilitate communication between internal teams and external suppliers. Day-to-day of the role:
*Product Development: *Work with and visit overseas factories to review new product development in conjunction with the Quality team.
*Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to product development and garment technology.
*Update and manage project critical paths and internal stakeholders.
*Ensure compliance with company procedures and industry regulations.
*Collaborate with the certification team to ensure products are certified to required standards.
*Sample Development: *Create and send technical packs to relevant factories for all new or resourcing styles.
*Organise and attend fit sessions for new product development.
*Approve and validate the quality of Bronze, Silver, Gold samples, and Bulk production.
*Collaborate with the design and production team to ensure technical accuracy and resolve any issues related to construction or fit.
*Communicate any technical issues or potential improvements with suppliers and manufacturers.
*Specification Development: *Build product specifications for factories including diagrams, BOMs, size charts, and emblem artworks.
*Produce technical drawings for garment specifications using Adobe Illustrator.
*Resolve queries and amend specifications of existing products with clear communication processes.
*Improve the consistency of specifications and terminology.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Relevant qualifications and degree preferred.
*Experience in a garment technology or product development role, or related field.
*Knowledge of garment construction and manufacturing methods.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and intermediate Adobe skills including Illustrator and Photoshop.
*Experience with critical path management is beneficial.
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team with excellent time management and organisational skills.
