Job Description:
Safety Standards Advisor (French speaker)
Job Purpose:

We’re looking for a Safety Standards Advisor to play a key role in ensuring safety compliance and managing organisational changes within a major rail infrastructure system. You’ll help maintain high safety standards, including ISO 45001, and support teams across the business in applying these principles effectively.
This role requires applying government and regulatory frameworks, hence requires strong compliance awareness and interpretation skills.
This role involves coordinating safety evidence for operational activities, ensuring compliance with European railway safety requirements, and interpreting regulatory frameworks. You’ll also ensure that safety rules and regulations - whether European, national, or binational are accurately reflected in policies and operational practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Authorisation & Safety Management System (SMS):
*Support the ongoing development and maintenance of the Safety Management System, ensuring it reflects technological and organisational changes.
*Coordinate the creation and delivery of safety dashboards ("Tableaux de Bord") across operational teams, defining requirements, guiding implementation, and tracking progress.
*Ensure safety-critical systems are supported by clear, reliable evidence through dashboards provided by relevant teams.
Safety Standards Website & Documentation:
*Manage and update the internal Safety Standards digital library, ensuring staff and regulators have easy access to policies, standards, and documentation.
Change Management & Assurance:
*Review change proposals to ensure compliance with safety requirements before submission to governance groups.
*Track and log all change requests, maintaining an accurate Change Log.
*Provide practical advice on following change management processes correctly.
*Monitor approved changes, working with project leads and technical experts to ensure safe delivery.
Regulatory Frameworks:
Review and interpret European, National, and Binational safety regulations - including Human and Organisational Factors (HOF) - to ensure they are properly embedded in safety standards and practices.
?????Qualifications and Experience:
*Level 4 qualification (e.g., HNC, NVQ Level 4, or equivalent), or Level 3 with relevant experience.
*Familiarity with Safety and Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 9001).
*IOSH Managing Safely or similar safety training is an advantage.
*Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
*Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within scope.
*High computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and document management systems.
*Auditing skills (safety or quality) are an advantage.
*Experience in railway operations is desirable but not essential.
*Fluent in French as well as English, with confidence in the either language for meetings and workshops.
*Ability to represent the Safety Directorate’s views and understand technical input.
Salary: Competitive; depending on experience.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
