We are currently working with a city centre-based organisation who are seeking an efficient Payroll Specialist to manage the accurate and timely payment of staff salaries, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and maintaining the integrity of reporting systems related to remuneration and pensions. This role is crucial in supporting the finance team by administering payroll and pension schemes effectively.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the monthly payroll, including handling starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
*Ensure compliance with all statutory obligations such as Income Tax, National Insurance, and pensions.
*Maintain and update accounts links and cost centres on both the payroll and accounting systems.
*Configure new payment and deduction items, ensuring correct setup for tax and pension contributions.
*Administer the organisation’s pension schemes, ensuring compliance with scheme rules and statutory requirements.
*Prepare and submit monthly and annual pension returns and ensure the correct operation of auto-enrolment.
*Respond to HMRC enquiries regarding employee pay and deductions.
*Provide advice to staff and managers on matters related to pay, taxation, and National Insurance.
*Administer Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), and Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP) schemes.
*Prepare month-end payroll summaries, carry out reconciliations, debug reports, and process necessary adjustments.
*Allocate employee costs and deductions accurately to relevant cost centres or balance sheet control accounts.
*Maintain all required payroll documentation and records to meet statutory and audit requirements.
*Produce necessary returns and statutory forms, including the issue of P45s and other leaver documentation.
*Prepare reports and data to support annual pay reviews, input approved changes, and calculate back-pay adjustments.
*Administer employee benefit schemes, including staff loans, cycle-to-work, and childcare voucher programmes.
*Perform monthly credit card reconciliations and distribute statements to cardholders.
*Process monthly departmental internal recharges and provide reports and feedback to departments.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Proven experience in payroll administration.
*Strong understanding of payroll legislation and statutory payment obligations.
*Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
*Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
*Strong organisational and time management skills.
*Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
*Good communication skills, capable of providing clear advice on complex payroll matters.
