Maintenance Technician
Location: Chaldon, Surrey
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £13.22 – £13.83 per hour (£27,497.60 – £28,766.40 per annum, dependent on experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week (schedule to be agreed with Business Manager)
About the Role
We are seeking two skilled Maintenance Technicians to join our team at a newly opened specialist secondary school for young people aged 11–16 with additional needs. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring our school environment is safe, well-maintained, and fit for purpose.
You will be responsible for the upkeep of the site, grounds, and equipment, ensuring high standards of health, safety, and safeguarding for all who access the premises.
Key Responsibilities
*Respond to and resolve maintenance requests using our online ticketing system.
*Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across the site, including building fabric, utilities, and services.
*Maintain and audit school vehicles, mileage logs, and usage registers.
*Ensure safe storage and handling of tools, equipment, and materials in line with Health & Safety standards.
*Assist with furniture and equipment movement as required.
*Support energy-efficient practices and report any issues promptly.
*Work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders to maintain a positive and safe environment.
What We’re Looking For
*Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar maintenance role (essential).
*Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential).
*Practical skills in basic repairs and maintenance (e.g., carpentry, painting, decorating).
*Understanding of Health & Safety principles and COSHH regulations.
*IT skills for asset management and audit systems.
*Flexibility to work occasional unsociable hours.
Desirable:
*First Aid qualification.
*Additional trade skills (electrical, plumbing, carpentry).
*Health & Safety certifications (Working at Height, Manual Handling).
*D1 licence for school transport support.
