Senior Accountant (Maternity Cover)
Location: Colchester, UK Contract: Full-time, 12-month fixed-term
About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, international environment and play a key part in ensuring accurate financial operations and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, general ledger entries, payroll postings, sales invoicing, and month-end close.
· Prepare monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and management reports for local and corporate stakeholders.
· Manage VAT processes, including data extraction, calculations, declarations, and reconciliations.
· Oversee expenses, prepayments, accruals, fixed asset register maintenance, depreciation, and intercompany reconciliations.
· Reconcile financial accounts, investigate discrepancies, and ensure compliance with internal controls.
· Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure accurate payroll reporting and resolve queries.
· Maintain compliance with accounting standards, corporate policies, and local legislation.
About You
· Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across teams.
· Solid understanding of accounting principles, VAT regulations, and financial controls.
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
· Proactive, analytical, and detail-oriented with a commitment to continuous improvement.
· Experience in international or multicultural environments is highly advantageous.
Experience & Education
· Minimum 4 years of experience in accounting roles.
· Strong knowledge of UK tax and VAT regulations.
· Proven experience with month-end processes and VAT reporting.
· ERP systems experience is a plus.
