Senior Design Engineer Elevation Design & Projects are supporting the recruitment of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of a market-leading engineering organisation.
This role is suited to an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer seeking to take on greater technical ownership, deliver complex engineered systems, and contribute to continuous improvement across a highly specialised manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Head of Design, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-integrity mechanical designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting full lifecycle project delivery.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead the creation, development and refinement of complex mechanical systems and specialist equipment for a diverse international customer base. This position is ideal for an engineer with strong design expertise, excellent standards knowledge, and the ability to influence design processes, quality, and efficiency across the business.
Senior Design Engineer Key Responsibilities * Translate customer and project requirements into innovative mechanical designs for specialised systems and equipment.

* Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.

* Ensure all designs comply with relevant directives, pressure equipment regulations, and applicable design standards.

* Generate supporting documentation including calculations, specifications, test documentation and certification packs.

* Work collaboratively with electrical, production, and assembly teams to support build and manufacturing activities.

Project Delivery & Process Compliance * Contribute to project planning and delivery, ensuring design activities meet deadlines, budgets, and quality expectations.

* Participate in design reviews, technical investigations, and risk assessments.

* Provide engineering support during FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and customer-facing technical stages.

* Support the adoption and ongoing implementation of LEAN and continuous improvement practices to enhance design and manufacturing efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance & Continuous Improvement * Apply relevant design codes & specialist directives

* Lead on internal design process improvement, documentation standardisation and best-practice development.

Senior Design Engineer Essential Requirements * Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification).

* Minimum 5 years’ experience within a mechanical design engineering role.

* High competency in SolidWorks and strong general IT skills.

* Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and common engineering standards.

* Good grasp of project management principles and structured delivery.

* Any specialist experience within machinery design, pressure systems or similar complex engineered equipment would be highly desirable
