Job Description:
The Director of Finance role at Butterfly Conservation is a senior leadership position responsible for shaping financial strategy, governance, and risk management while driving transformational change across finance systems and processes. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll lead a team, influence Board-level decisions, and play a key role in delivering the charity’s mission to protect biodiversity.

Description
*Lead the finance department and oversee all financial activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
*Develop and implement financial strategies to support organisational goals and sustainability.
*Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
*Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes effectively.
*Ensure robust financial controls and risk management frameworks are in place.
*Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial insights and support strategic decisions.
*Oversee the preparation of statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors.
*Provide guidance and leadership to the finance team, fostering professional development.
Profile
Professional Qualification: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with strong technical accounting knowledge.
Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, with a coaching style and strong delegation skills.
Strategic Capability: Demonstrated experience in shaping financial strategy, managing budgets, and influencing senior stakeholders.
Sector Knowledge: Confidence in working within highly regulated environments, ideally with charity governance and SORP experience.
Risk & Compliance Expertise: Skilled in risk management, audit processes, and safeguarding responsibilities.
Systems & Process Improvement: Experience in modernizing finance systems and driving transformational change.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, able to influence and build collaborative relationships with trustees, volunteers, and external partners.
Personal Attributes: Values-driven, inclusive, innovative, and highly analytical with strong emotional intelligence and ability to inspire others.
