Job Description:
There are job ads that pretend every Accounts Assistant role is a gateway to financial glory, personal enlightenment and a corner office.
This isn’t one of those ads.
This is a role in a small, tight finance team (there are three of them, and yes - they will notice if you disappear for 45 minutes "to make a tea"). The company? A long-standing UK manufacturer in Yorkshire that still makes things the proper way. But for the purposes of this advert, we’ll leave it at "a specialist producer in a niche industry."
What matters is they’re stable, growing, and the Financial Controller would quite like to sleep at night again, which is where you come in.
Your purpose is simple: Keep the ledgers straight, the reports accurate, and the numbers behaving themselves.
In practice, it’s less "simple" and more "a steady stream of tasks that will suit someone who enjoys order, routine, and the smug satisfaction of a perfectly reconciled bank account."
What will you be doing?
*Process daily sales invoices, receipts, credit notes and journals (plus all the posting, scanning, filing and reconciling that follows).
*Monitor customer credit limits and send out statements.
*Handle credit control.
*Produce Monday reports (sales, order book re-phasing, sales not dispatched, trading pack) and draft wages.
*Update Friday stock reports.
*Manage weekly expenses, supplier payments and payment runs.
*Keep ledgers tidy - matching, correcting and reconciling as you go.
*Complete multi-currency bank recs and intercompany reconciliations.
*Oversee petty cash (yes, it still exists).
*Support month-end (accruals, prepayments, control accounts).
*Assist with audits and cover your fellow Accounts Assistant when needed.
*Answer queries from anyone who assumes finance is psychic.
