Job Description:
We are seeking a Policy and Projects Officer to support the increase in voter registration rates among under-registered and under-represented Londoners and to build awareness and trust in the democratic system. This role involves supporting a wide range of communications, events, grant programmes, and projects to strengthen active citizenship and democratic participation within the legal parameters afforded to the GLA.
Location: Southwark - Hybrid work (two days in the office)
Pay rate: £26.30 per hour PAYE or £34.15 per hour Umbrella (Inside of IR35)
Day-to-Day of the Role:
*Contribute to the delivery of the GLA Civic and Democratic Participation programme, focusing on under-registered and under-represented communities.
*Support programme delivery and involvement of internal and external partners through various activities.
*Engage with and support stakeholders from the public, voluntary, and private sectors by outlining the benefits of supporting/collaborating on flagship projects/campaigns of the GLA Civic and Democratic Participation programme.
*Develop and maintain effective procedures for collating and updating information, including monitoring and reporting progress, and facilitating its use in relevant GLA strategies and programmes.
*Actively support and contribute to the provision of timely policy advice and briefings to internal and external stakeholders, including public correspondence.
*Help facilitate clear and effective internal and external communication around the GLA Civic and Democratic Participation programme, including through GLA’s social media platforms and the GLA Democracy Hub.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Experience working in partnership with public sector agencies, voluntary and community groups, and the private sector.
*Project management skills and experience, with the ability to ensure initiatives are delivered to agreed targets and timescales.
*Experience planning and organising a variety of partnerships, engagement, and communications activities involving civil society, diverse communities, and a wide range of stakeholders at all levels.
*Understanding of, and commitment to, equality of opportunity and serving London’s diverse communities, and the ability to apply this in a policy and projects role.
*Some understanding of barriers to civic and democratic participation, including the voter registration process, and communities under-registered and under-represented, and changes to electoral law.
