Role: Conveyancing Assistant
Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Salary: £25,000 - £27,000
Contract: Full time, permanent
A respected professional services firm in the Huddersfield area is looking to recruit an experienced Residential Property Conveyancer to join its growing property department. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is confident managing a busy and varied caseload and who can deliver a high standard of client care with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
*
Take full responsibility for a mixed caseload of residential conveyancing matters, including sales, purchases, re-mortgages, transfers of equity and related transactions.
*
Progress files from initial instruction through to completion, ensuring that all stages are handled efficiently, accurately and in line with regulatory requirements.
*
Communicate clearly and professionally with all parties involved in the transaction, such as: *
Clients and referrers
*
Opposing solicitors
*
Estate agents and mortgage intermediaries
*
Lenders and financial organisations
*
HMRC for Stamp Duty submissions
*
HM Land Registry for registrations and post-completion updates
*
Prepare, review and finalise all legal documents associated with each matter, maintaining a thorough approach to checks, enquiries and reporting.
*
Carry out all post-completion processes promptly, including SDLT filings, Land Registry applications and closing administration.
*
Ensure that files are maintained to a high standard, with meticulous attention to compliance, deadlines and internal procedures.
*
Work collaboratively with colleagues across the department, contributing to a positive and supportive team environment.
Skills and Experience
Essential
*
At least 3-4 years of hands-on experience running your own caseload of residential property matters.
*
Strong working knowledge of freehold and leasehold conveyancing, including title review, enquiries, mortgage work, and completion processes.
*
Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining accuracy and professional judgement.
*
Up-to-date understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in a legal setting, including AML, GDPR, cyber security standards and fraud-prevention measures.
*
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
*
Experience using digital case management systems or modern conveyancing software.
*
A proactive approach to problem-solving and maintaining momentum on files.
*Strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to providing excellent client service.
