What you’ll do:
As the Environmental Health and Safety Assistant, you will play an integral role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the EHS function. Your responsibilities will span from developing effective safety programmes to providing expert advice on regulatory compliance. You will be actively involved in auditing practices across multiple departments, identifying areas for improvement while fostering a culture of safety awareness throughout the organisation. By collaborating closely with plant personnel and external stakeholders alike, you will help drive continuous improvement initiatives that not only meet but exceed statutory requirements. Your attention to detail will be crucial when managing sensitive documentation or responding promptly to agency enquiries. Ultimately, your contribution will ensure that every aspect of the facility’s operations aligns with best practice standards for Environmental, Health and Safety.
What you bring:
To excel as an Environmental Health and Safety Assistant you will ideally bring proven experience from a previous role where you have supported EHS compliance and initiatives. Your background may include hands-on involvement in environmental reporting processes or direct participation in audits/inspections related to workplace safety, while you should possess strong interpersonal skills that allow you to build trust-based relationships across different teams while promoting shared responsibility for health & safety outcomes. Your approach will be methodical yet adaptable, enabling you to respond effectively under pressure when managing incidents or addressing urgent regulatory matters. A keen eye for detail combined with excellent organisational abilities ensures that all documentation remains accurate and up-to-date. If you hold additional certifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH this will further strengthen your application. Above all else your commitment to nurturing a positive safety culture where everyone feels empowered to contribute will set you apart.
*A formal qualification in chemical engineering, environmental science, chemistry or another EHS-related technical discipline is highly desirable for this position.
*Previous experience working within EHS in a manufacturing or similar industrial sector is preferred.
*Demonstrable experience in environmental reporting as well as administration of permits, programme audits, inspections and other aspects of compliance is highly desirable.
*Familiarity with independent standards organisations such as ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) or ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) is advantageous.
*Certification as a safety professional (such as IOSH, NEBOSH or AOSH) would be beneficial but not mandatory.
*Proven ability to develop effective projects / programmes through collaborative engagement with colleagues at all levels is important for success in this role.
*Excellent oral and written communication skills are needed to convey technical information clearly across diverse audiences within the business.
*Strong analytical skills are required for interpreting technical reports/regulatory documents; making sound judgements; offering practical solutions; and managing confidential information discreetly.
