SEN Teaching Assistant ASD Specialist Primary School

Full-time | Term-time
The Role Milk Education is recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist ASD primary school in Hillingdon. This role suits someone who already understands the realities of SEND education and is confident supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a structured school environment.
This is a day-to-day role initially, with strong potential to progress into a long-term or permanent position for the right person.
The School This is a purpose-built specialist primary school for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The setting is calm, structured, and highly supportive, with a strong focus on communication, emotional regulation, and independence.
You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team including specialist teachers, therapists, and SEN professionals, working together to create consistent, low-arousal learning environments.
Key Responsibilities * Supporting pupils with ASD across EYFS and Primary
* Providing 1:1 and small group support throughout the school day
* Using visual communication tools including:
* Visual timetables
* Now/Next boards
* Social stories
* Task breakdowns
* Supporting communication using PECS, Makaton, and visual systems
* Assisting pupils with sensory regulation, movement breaks, and sensory tools
* Supporting emotional wellbeing and behaviour regulation
* Assisting with personal care where required
* Supporting transitions and maintaining predictable routines
* Working closely with teachers to adapt learning materials
* Following safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times
Experience & Requirements * Previous experience working with children or young people with ASD and/or complex needs
* Experience within a school, specialist provision, PRU, or SEND setting
* Confidence supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
* Familiarity with visual communication systems (PECS, Makaton, visual schedules) is highly desirable
* Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient approach
* Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
* Ability to follow structured routines and low-arousal approaches
