£50,000 - £60,000
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Indirect Tax Junior Manager / VAT Consultant to join a growing and forward-thinking advisory firm based in Cardiff. This role is ideal for a VAT professional who values building long-term client relationships and delivering practical, commercially focused advice.
You will work closely with clients across the education, public sector and not-for-profit sectors, playing a key role in providing high-quality VAT advisory and compliance services while supporting the continued growth of the VAT function.

Your role as an Indirect Tax Manager:
*You will manage a portfolio of clients, acting as a trusted adviser and delivering proactive VAT support tailored to each organisation’s needs. The role offers genuine scope to develop technically, contribute to business development, mentor junior team members, and strengthen the firm’s profile within the education (FE and HE) sector.
*Deliver VAT reviews and advisory work, including partial exemption and non-business apportionment methods, including annual adjustments.
*Land and property matters, including option to tax and Capital Goods Scheme adjustments
*Support clients with HMRC matters, including voluntary disclosures, PESM applications and HMRC inspections.
*Keep clients informed of technical developments, sector issues and changes in HMRC guidance.
*Identify new advisory opportunities and support sector networking and business development.
*Maintain up-to-date VAT technical knowledge and undertake research on complex issues.
*Assist with technical reports, internal briefings and advisory projects.
*Ensure all work meets quality, risk management and professional standards.
What you’ll need to succeed:
*HMRC experience and/or CTA, ATT or equivalent qualification (or working towards).
*3-5 years’ VAT experience, ideally within professional services, consultancy or an in-house advisory role.
*Strong experience working with education and/or public sector clients.
*Sound technical knowledge of partial exemption, non-business apportionment and VAT recovery methodologies, including PESMs and CGS calculations.
*Curious, motivated and committed to continuous development.
