The Role
As a Senior Marine Engineer, you’ll contribute to the design and support of specialised, lightweight, and high-speed vessels for both UK and international clients, predominantly within commercial shipping.
Your work will span the full vessel lifecycle, giving you exposure to everything from conceptual design through to in-service support, technical investigations, feasibility studies, and research.
Key responsibilities include:
*Leading marine engineering elements of design and integration projects
*Mechanical system design, equipment selection, and 2D/3D modelling
*Conducting surveys to support design changes and engineering investigations
*Providing solutions to in-service defects and safety issues
*Producing clear, high-quality schematics, specifications, and arrangements
*Reviewing production engineering models and advising on design improvements
*Managing technical work packages and liaising with clients, suppliers and internal teams
You’ll also have opportunities to contribute to wider programmes, including consulting projects, defence-related work, and future vessel design concepts.
The role is based in Fareham, with hybrid options and occasional travel to other UK sites and customer locations.
About You
We’re looking for someone with strong technical capability, a proactive mindset, and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Essential Criteria:
*HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering
*3+ years’ relevant design experience on vessels 15–70m+
*Solid understanding of ship systems integration
*Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D (3D CAD tools desirable)
*Ability to deliver clear, accurate engineering calculations and drawings
*Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
*Proven ability to lead technical tasks and manage competing priorities
Desirable Experience:
*Background in the defence sector
*Ability to mentor or support junior engineers
*Flexibility to work across varied projects and customer sites
*Experience with PLM or document management systems
