Job Description:
Location: Hybrid – candidates can be based in Norfolk or Devon, with applications open for remote working
Contract: Permanent or Contract
Hours: Full-time
We’re looking for a Legal and Compliance Officer to join a growing team, with a strong focus on compliance and data protection. While you’ll provide support on day-to-day legal matters, the majority of your time will be dedicated to compliance, data governance, and maintaining high standards across regulatory responsibilities.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career with up to two years’ experience in legal, compliance, or data protection, and who is keen to deepen their expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance and Data Protection
*Manage the data protection inbox and escalate queries where needed
*Support and log Data Subject Rights requests
*Coordinate Data Subject Access Requests accurately and on time
*Identify and log potential data protection complaints or breaches
*Maintain registers of incidents, near misses, and actions
*Record complaints and incidents using service desk systems
*Support annual Information Asset Register updates and data mapping
*Prepare compliance reports and statistics
*Assist with quarterly Data Governance Committee meetings
*Help develop, roll out, and monitor compliance policies and procedures
Legal Support
*Provide guidance on legal queries and contract terms
*Draft documents and conduct legal research
*Organise and maintain contract information in electronic systems
*Analyse legal information and maintain accurate records
*Prepare written updates on legal topics for internal teams
*Assist with legal complaints and court filings when required
*Support internal legal training and administrative tasks
What You’ll Bring
*Up to two years’ experience in legal, compliance, or data protection
*Practitioner-level data protection qualification or working towards one
*Solid understanding of UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
*Legal background (solicitor, CILEX professional, or equivalent experience)
*Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise
*Strong written and verbal communication skills
*Confidence handling confidential information
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital systems
