Job Description:
SEMH Class Teacher - Secondary (Alternative Provision)
Location: Northampton
Contract: Full-time / Long-term (via Tradewind Recruitment)
Start Date: ASAP
Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a committed, resilient, and passionate SEMH Class Teacher to work with secondary-aged students in specialist alternative provision settings across Northampton. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is driven to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging, differentiated lessons to small class groups, supporting students who may have experienced trauma, exclusion, or disrupted education. You will play a key role in helping learners re-engage with education, develop emotional regulation, and build the skills needed for both academic progress and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver creative, structured lessons aligned with the secondary curriculum
* Create a calm, safe, and supportive classroom environment
* Implement effective behaviour management strategies tailored to SEMH needs
* Build strong, positive relationships with students based on trust and consistency
* Work collaboratively with support staff, SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies
* Track progress and contribute to EHCP targets and individual support plans
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification
* Experience working with SEMH, SEND, alternative provision, or challenging behaviour
* Strong behaviour management skills and emotional resilience
* A trauma-informed, nurturing approach to teaching and learning
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* A genuine commitment to inclusion and safeguarding
