Job Description:
Location: Blackpool (Central & North Shore)
School Type: Mainstream Secondary - Inclusion & Pastoral Department
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only
The Role: From the Community to the Classroom Are you a Youth Worker, Sports Coach, or Social Practitioner who is tired of the irregular hours but still wants to make a massive impact? We are looking for "relatable role models" to work within Blackpool Secondary Schools as a Youth Mentor / Student Support Assistant.
In Blackpool, our young people face unique challenges. We need individuals who "get it"-people who can speak their language, break down barriers to education, and provide the consistency that many of our students are missing. This isn’t about sitting at the back of a class with a textbook; it’s about mentoring students who are at risk of exclusion and helping them stay on the right track.
Your Responsibilities * Engagement: Act as the bridge between the student and the classroom, helping disengaged learners find a reason to participate.
* Mentoring: Run 1:1 "check-in" sessions for students struggling with low self-esteem, gang culture, or difficult home lives.
* De-escalation: Use your Youth Work skills to spot "triggers" in the corridor and de-escalate conflicts before they reach the classroom.
* Attendance Coaching: Work with "frequent flyers" (students often truanting) to encourage better attendance and punctuality.
* Extracurricular: Use your skills (sports, music, art, or tech) to lead small group activities that build confidence.
Who We Are Looking For * The Profile: You don’t necessarily need school experience. We want people from Youth Work, Outreach, Residential Care, Police, or Military backgrounds.
* The Character: You must be "unshockable." We need people with a thick skin, a calm head, and the ability to build rapport with teenagers quickly.
* Local Heart: An understanding of the Blackpool area and the specific challenges facing its youth is a massive advantage.
* The Boundary-Setter: You know how to be a mentor without being a "mate"-maintaining professional boundaries while being the person the students trust.
Why Make the Move to Schools? * Better Work-Life Balance: No more late nights or weekend outreach. Work 08:30 - 15:30, Monday to Friday.
* School Holidays: Enjoy 13 weeks of holiday per year (term-time only contract).
* Career Progression: This is a perfect stepping stone into specialised pastoral roles, Family Liaison work, or even teaching.
* Impact: You will see the same kids every day, allowing you to see the long-term progress that short-term youth projects often miss.
How to Apply If you have the passion to change the narrative for Blackpool’s youth, we want to hear from you.
Apply Now: Send your CV to or call to discuss how your experience fits (or clcik apply).
Successful candidates will require an enhanced DBS check. We provide full training on school-specific safeguarding and "Team-Teach" de-escalation.
