Job Title: Food Safety Practitioner / Environmental Health Practitioner/Officer – Technical (Temporary)
Location: Remote (West Lancashire)
Hours: 6 hours per day
Rates: PAYE £68.00/hr | Limited/Umbrella £89.88/hr
Ribble Recruitment is assisting with the sourcing, screening, and initial recruitment stages for this temporary assignment with West Lancashire Borough Council.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Food Safety Practitioner who meets the Food Standards Agency Competency Standards to undertake approximately 80 C–E rated food hygiene inspections before the end of March 2026. This role forms part of the Environmental Health team within Housing & Regulatory Services.
Key Responsibilities:
*Carry out interventions and inspections in line with food safety, health & safety, and public health legislation.
*Investigate food complaints, outbreaks, and incidents, taking formal or informal action as required.
*Support and supervise regulatory staff, students, and colleagues as needed (Scale PO1).
*Liaise with other Council services and external agencies, including the Food Standards Agency and Health & Safety Executive.
*Maintain accurate records, reports, and statistical returns.
*Contribute to continuous improvement and evidence-led approaches within the Food & Safety team.
Candidate Requirements:
*Eligible to work in the UK.
*Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
*Relevant qualification in food safety and/or environmental health.
*Proven experience in food hygiene or health & safety inspections.
*Strong ICT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to interpret legal documentation.
*Excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills.
