Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Hepatology Nurse to join our specialist liver services team. This role will focus on the delivery of high-quality, nurse-led care for patients with suspected or confirmed liver disease, including the independent performance of FibroScan (transient elastography) assessments.
The successful candidate will play a key role in patient assessment, education, diagnostics and ongoing management, working closely with hepatology consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
*Independently perform FibroScan (transient elastography) assessments in line with local and national guidelines
*Prepare patients for FibroScan procedures, including:
*Clinical screening
*Explanation of the procedure
*Gaining informed consent
*Providing aftercare advice
*Accurately operate FibroScan equipment, ensuring high-quality and reproducible results
*Troubleshoot technical issues related to FibroScan equipment as required
*Record, interpret and report FibroScan results within scope of practice, escalating abnormal or complex findings to senior clinicians
*Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation using electronic patient record systems
*Undertake nurse-led assessments in hepatology clinics, including:
*Comprehensive history taking
*Observations and risk assessment
*Phlebotomy (where trained)
*Provide patient education on liver disease, including:
*Lifestyle modification (e.g. alcohol reduction, weight management)
*Treatment adherence and long-term condition management
Essential Skills & Experience
*Registered Nurse (NMC)
*Proven experience working within hepatology or liver services
*Ability to independently perform FibroScan assessments
*Strong clinical assessment and patient communication skills
*Experience documenting and managing patient data using electronic patient record systems
*Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team
Specialist Skills / Training / Experience Required
*FibroScan experience (essential)
