Role Purpose To support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in accessing the curriculum, developing social and communication skills, and managing emotional and behavioural needs in a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities *Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism, both in and out of the classroom


*Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation


*Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated learning activities tailored to individual needs


*Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs, IEPs, and behaviour support plans


*Use visual timetables, structured routines, and sensory strategies to support learning


*Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour


*Support pupils during transitions, break times, and unstructured activities


*Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and achievements, providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs


*Promote inclusion and ensure pupils are fully supported within the school environment


*Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents/carers


*Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and school policies at all times


Essential Skills & Experience *Experience working with children or young people with autism (school, care, or support setting)


*Strong understanding of ASC needs, including sensory processing and communication differences


*Calm, patient, and empathetic approach


*Ability to manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies


*Good communication and teamwork skills


*Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education


Desirable (Not Essential) *Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification


*SEN training (ASC, ADHD, SEMH)


*Experience with PECS, Makaton, or visual communication systems


*Team Teach or de-escalation training
