Job Description:
SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception (1:1 Autism Support)
Location: Ealing
Mainstream Primary School
We are seeking a highly experienced and calm SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Reception-age pupil with Autism in a mainstream primary school in Ealing.
The pupil is very active and we require an energetic candidate. This role is 1:1 for safety reasons and requires a confident practitioner who can provide firm, consistent boundaries while maintaining a warm, nurturing approach.
The pupil is described as very sweet, affectionate, and engaging, and responds best to clear routines, visuals, and structured interventions.
The Role
*Provide 1:1 specialised support throughout the school day
*Ensure the child’s safety at all times due to impulsive running behaviour
*Support learning through ABC recognition and number work
*Deliver intensive Bucket Time sessions to build attention and engagement
*Use visual timetables, now/next boards, and structured routines
*Support emotional regulation and transitions with a staggered timetable
*Build a strong, trusting relationship with the child
*Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals
*Maintain clear, calm, and consistent boundaries
*Develop a positive working relationship with the child’s mum
Start & Timetable
*Start date: After half term
*Working pattern:
*Half days until Easter
*Full time after the Easter break onwards
*Opportunity to trial and meet the pupil before starting
Essential Experience & Skills
*Strong experience supporting children with Autism (ASC)
*Experience working with Reception / Early Years pupils
*Confident managing running and impulsive behaviours
*Excellent use of visual supports
*Calm, resilient, and unflappable
*Able to apply firm, consistent boundaries
*Skilled at building positive relationships with children and families
Desirable Experience
*Bucket Time (intensive delivery)
*Use of visual communication systems
*Experience with staggered or reduced timetables
*Previous 1:1 SEN support roles
The Ideal Candidate
*Calm, patient, and nurturing but clear and firm
*Highly organised and consistent
*Confident working independently
*Passionate about supporting young children with complex needs
TARA Requirements:
*DBS Certificate on Update (we can process this for you)
*2 references readily available
*Overseas police check (if necessary)
*Availability to be part of an initial 30 minute TARA video interview call over December 2025 & January 2026
