1:1 Teaching Assistant – Year 5 (Trauma Support & Classroom Reintegration) | Wirral

We are recruiting a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 pupil who is being re-integrated into the classroom following recent and previous trauma. The pupil is currently working at a Year 3 level and has a part-time timetable that includes creative activities such as arts, crafts, and baking. The school’s goal is to gradually transition her back into a structured classroom environment.


This role requires someone who can balance structure, routine, and boundaries with a nurturing approach, helping the pupil feel safe and supported while encouraging positive choices throughout the day. You’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies that promote emotional regulation, engagement, and confidence.

Your Role*Provide 1:1 tailored support for a pupil with trauma-related and SEMH needs
*Assist with classroom reintegration and structured activities
*Create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment
*Encourage positive decision-making when presented with options
*Build trust and rapport while maintaining consistency and clear expectations
*Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and follow child protection policies

What We’re Looking For*Experience supporting young people with SEND, ideally trauma, SEMH, and behavioural challenges
*Strong communication and teamwork skills
*A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach
*Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
*Willingness to complete an Enhanced DBS check (or already hold one on the Update Service)
