Job Description:
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and professional Head Housekeeper to join a fully staffed household for a high-net-worth family in Central London. The successful candidate will take responsibility for leading the housekeeping team, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, organisation, and presentation throughout the property. This is a vital role within a formal household, requiring strong attention to detail, excellent leadership skills, and a hands-on approach to ensure high standards are consistently met.
The ideal candidate will be a team player who can also work independently and manage others with confidence and discretion. You will be responsible for training the existing housekeeping team to ensure their skills and practices meet new standards, as well as assist in appointing new Housekeepers to the team. You will oversee and participate in daily cleaning and laundry routines, manage rotas, ensure correct stock levels of cleaning supplies, and liaise closely with the House Manager to maintain smooth household operations. A proactive mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to train, motivate, and support other housekeepers are essential.
This is a full-time, live-out position, working five days per week on a rota (with two consecutive days off each week). Working hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and experienced professional Head Housekeeper seeking a long-term position within a respectful and well-structured private household.
DUTIES TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
• Managing and supporting the housekeeping team to ensure all areas of the home are maintained to the highest standards
• Hands-on cleaning, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, polishing, and bathroom/kitchen cleaning
• Laundry and ironing, including specialist care of delicate fabrics and fine garments
• Organising household supplies and maintaining stock levels
• Implementing and maintaining cleaning schedules and rotas
• Cleaning and caring for fine materials such as marble, silver, crystal, and antiques
• Overseeing wardrobe organisation and seasonal changeovers
• Reporting maintenance issues and liaising with contractors when required
• Ad hoc duties and general assistance as needed
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
• Prior experience as a head housekeeper in a fully staffed household
• Fluency in English and excellent communication skills
• Eligibility to work in the UK
• A true team player and strong leader
• Hardworking and dedicated
• High attention to detail
• Trustworthy and reliable
• Proven longevity in previous roles
• Updated DBS check or the willingness to obtain one
• Excellent checkable references
