SEMH Instructor | Southend-on-Sea
Location: Southend-on-Sea, Essex
Daily Rate: £130 - £160 (Dependent on Experience)
Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
Randstad Education is currently recruiting for a resilient and adaptive SEMH Instructor to work within a specialist school or Alternative Provision in Southend-on-Sea. This role is specifically designed for an educator who excels in non-traditional settings and can engage students who may have had negative experiences with mainstream education.
As an SEMH Instructor, you will go beyond standard teaching; you will act as a mentor, authority figure, and advocate for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. You will be responsible for delivering a functional and creative curriculum designed to re-engage learners and build their self-esteem.
Key Responsibilities
*Curriculum Delivery: Lead and deliver a range of subjects (often with a focus on core skills and life skills) tailored to the individual learning levels of SEMH students.
*De-escalation & Support: Utilise positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques (such as Team-Teach or Price) to manage high-anxiety situations and challenging behaviours.
*Individualised Planning: Work from EHCPs to ensure every student has a personalised pathway toward academic and emotional success.
*Nurturing Environment: Foster a classroom culture based on mutual respect, clear boundaries, and emotional safety.
*Community Liaison: Work with local Southend support services and families to ensure a consistent approach to the student’s welfare.
Candidate Requirements
*Proven Experience: A background in SEMH, PRUs, or Youth Work is highly desirable.
*Resilient Character: The ability to "start every day fresh" and maintain a positive outlook despite daily challenges.
*Communication: Exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication skills to connect with hard-to-reach learners.
*Local Knowledge: Proximity to Southend-on-Sea and an understanding of the local demographic is an advantage.
*Compliance: You must possess an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service and be able to provide a full 10-year career history.
Why Join Randstad Education?
*Competitive Pay: Earn £130-£160 per day via PAYE.
*Training: Access to free CPD courses, including Safeguarding and Behaviour Management.
*Southend Network: Strong relationships with a variety of specialist provisions across the seaside town and surrounding Essex areas.
*Referral Scheme: Our "Refer a Friend" scheme gives you the chance to earn £300 in Love2shop vouchers.
