Job Description:
SRM are supporting a scaling manufacturing and engineering services business in the South Oxfordshire area to recruit a Financial Controller.
This role is a "hands on, process improvement" centred role and are looking for a qualified accountant (ACA / CA preferred; however, strong candidates with alternative qualifications will be considered). This is an office based role, 5 days a week but working in a collaborative, supportive culture.
Key responsibilities:
*Ledger Management and Monthly Reporting – leading and end-to-end month-end close process on a timely basis and to support accurate and relevant Board reporting and department requirements. From a process improvement perspective, our client would like a candidate who sees issues and can improve processes - develop month end reporting to ensure visibility and control of all areas of the business. Ensure completion of balance sheet reconciliations.
*Lead, Manage and Develop Operational Finance Team – lead, manage and small finance team (6) to ensure smooth running of payment, accounting and reporting functions.
*Budgeting & Forecasting – assist in preparing the annual budget, mid-year reforecasts, and five-year business plans with specific input on opening position, overheads, structure companies, tax and balance sheet items.
*Cost Control & Profitability – supervise the preparation of monthly cost and commitment reporting to support review and re-forecast of engineering project spend/cost, technical fees etc. Lead cost reviews with budget holders, and work with department heads to ensure dates per the monthly site tracker are accurate.
*Statutory Reporting & Audit – act as lead contact for auditors and tax advisers during the year-end audit; prepare year-end statutory accounts and tax workbooks; co-ordinate final submissions to Companies House and HMRC.
*Taxation & Compliance – oversee preparation of VAT returns, liaise with tax advisors and manage compliance with payroll, P11Ds, and other statutory requirements.
*Payroll Preparation and Submission - manage and support collation of information and evidence by HR Admin for payroll submission.
*Internal Controls & Process Improvement – champion adherence to policies, drive internal controls, and proactively identify opportunities for efficiency gains
To be considered / likely candidate background:
*Our client is seeking a qualified accountant (ACA is preferred, but a full consideration will be given to other qualifications too.
*The successful candidate will be well versed with owning (and developing) an end-to-end month end cycle, to include balance sheet and all monthly reporting.
*A strong people manager and mentor
*Proficient in Excel and able to accurately manipulate large volumes of data (formulae, pivots, lookups etc). Confident to interrogate, understand, use and improve existing models
*Be able to commute to our client based within the Greater Oxford area on a 5 day a week basis.
This is an excellent role with a growing, scaling business where there is a clear opportunity for you to further improve the operating processes around a business in the engineering and manufacturing space, and take on oversight of a team.
Salary c£80,000 + car allowance £5,000 + bonus + benefits
