Job Description:
British Sign Language (BSL) Specialist - Secondary School (Rotherham)
Location: Rotherham
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Fixed Term until July 2026
We are seeking a qualified British Sign Language (BSL) Specialist to work alongside a hearing-impaired student in a secondary school in Rotherham.
This is a full-time, fixed-term role starting as soon as possible and running until July 2026. You will play a vital role in supporting the student’s access to education by interpreting and facilitating communication throughout the school day.
The Role: * Provide BSL interpretation for a hearing-impaired student during lessons and school activities
* Support the student to fully access the curriculum and engage with teachers and peers
* Work closely with teaching staff, SEN staff, and external professionals to support the student’s needs
* Adapt communication methods as required to suit the student and learning environment
Requirements: * British Sign Language qualification - Level 3 minimum (essential)
* Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a secondary school setting
* Strong communication skills and a supportive, patient approach
* Ability to work effectively as part of a school team
