Job Title: Temporary SEN Teaching Assistant (College)Location: Peterborough
Contract Type: Temporary Ongoing
Hours: Full-time and Part-time opportunities available
Hourly Rate: £15.95 per hour
Role OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated Temporary SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with special educational needs within a college environment. The role focuses on helping learners access education in a way that meets their individual needs, promotes independence, and supports both academic and personal development.
You will work closely with lecturers, SEN teams, and support services to ensure students receive consistent, tailored assistance across their learning programmes.
Key Responsibilities*Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEN
*Support learners during lessons, workshops, and practical activities
*Assist students with understanding instructions, tasks, and coursework
*Implement agreed support strategies, learning plans, and reasonable adjustments
*Promote student independence, confidence, and self-regulation
*Support students with communication, sensory, behavioural, or social needs
*Monitor engagement and progress, providing feedback to teaching and SEN staff
*Maintain accurate records where required
*Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, and inclusive practice at all times
Person Specification*Experience supporting students with SEN in an education or training setting
*Understanding of a range of needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, or learning difficulties
*Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
*Strong communication and teamwork skills
*Ability to adapt support methods to suit individual learners
*Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
Desirable Experience & Qualifications*Previous experience in a college or further education setting
*Knowledge of EHCPs and individual learning plans
*Relevant qualifications in SEN, learning support, or education
