Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join a UK-based charity dedicated to promoting sustainable corporate governance and positive climate action. As the Management Accountant, you will work closely with the Associate Director of Operations and operate as the organisation’s standalone finance lead, taking full ownership of organisational accounting, grant reporting and financial control.
This role offers a rare opportunity to combine technical excellence with meaningful purpose, making a tangible contribution to climate-focused governance and long-term organisational sustainability. The Management Accountant will enjoy significant autonomy, regular exposure to senior stakeholders, and the opportunity to influence financial strategy within a mission-driven, growing organisation.
The Management Accountant will be responsible for delivering timely, accurate and insightful financial information to support decision-making across the organisation. You will lead on management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, grant reporting, audit and compliance, ensuring strong financial governance as the charity continues to grow.
This is a part-time role working 22.5 hours a week, with a blend of office and home working, as agreed in advance. The role-holder will occasionally need to attend online meetings outside normal office hours, to accommodate different time zones; and to undertake occasional international travel.
Key Responsibilities
*Oversee and quality-assure work produced by the outsourced virtual finance office, including journals, reconciliations and transaction coding
*Produce monthly management accounts with narrative and insight
*Prepare quarterly financial reports, variance analysis and management information for the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee
*Build and maintain financial models covering multiple income streams, including scenario planning and cashflow forecasting
*Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly reforecasting, supporting budget holders across the organisation
*Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring accurate allocation and reporting
*Develop funder budgets for grant applications and produce regular financial reports in line with funder requirements
*Maintain and apply a robust full cost recovery and core cost allocation methodology
*Lead the annual audit process and ensure timely submission to the Charity Commission
*Ensure compliance with Charities SORP (FRS 102), VAT requirements, payroll controls and P11D submissions
*Manage reserves policy, bank mandates, fixed asset register and treasury activities
*Attend and present at Finance, Risk and Audit Committee meetings and contribute as a senior management team member
Skills and Experience
*Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
*Significant experience in charity finance, including grant income and restricted funds
*Strong knowledge of Charities SORP (FRS 102) and UK charity regulation
*Experience preparing grant budgets, financial reports and full cost recovery models
*Working knowledge of UK VAT as it applies to charities
*Proven experience managing outsourced finance providers
*Advanced Excel skills and experience using Xero
*Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders
*Highly detail-oriented, with strong integrity and discretion
*Confident, self-motivated and comfortable operating autonomously
