Job Description:
We are seeking a patient, resilient, and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a challenging but rewarding school that supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This long-term supply role involves working closely with pupils who require consistent structure, emotional support, and positive, trusting relationships.
The school is looking for someone who is calm under pressure, confident in managing challenging behaviour, and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities*Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.
*Use de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation.
*Assist with personalised learning programmes tailored to individual needs.
*Support pupils with classroom engagement, social skills, routines, and transitions.
*Work collaboratively with teachers, behaviour mentors, and pastoral staff.
*Build strong, consistent relationships that promote trust, confidence and self-esteem.
*Help maintain a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment.
Requirements*Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour.
*A calm, resilient approach with the ability to remain professional under pressure.
*Strong communication and teamwork skills.
*Ability to build positive relationships with students who may have experienced trauma or instability.
*Willingness to undertake training in safeguarding, behaviour support, and SEMH strategies.
*Commitment to promoting the welfare and development of vulnerable young people.
