Income Officer (L3Z2)Contract: 2-month rolling contract

Aatom Recruitment is currently seeking an Income Officer (L3Z2) to support a local authority on a rolling 2-month interim contract. This role focuses on delivering a person-centred income collection service to Sheltered Housing residents across the borough.
Role OverviewThe Income Officer will be responsible for managing housing income for the council’s housing stock, ensuring early intervention, preventing arrears, and taking appropriate action where necessary. The post holder will work directly with residents, offering a supportive and customer-focused service to help them sustain their tenancies.
Key ResponsibilitiesIncome Collection & Arrears Management*Manage all aspects of income collection for council housing, including Sheltered Housing residents.
*Take a proactive approach to early intervention, identifying risk factors and preventing arrears from escalating.
*Handle cases from initial arrears through to enforcement, including:
*Initiating possession proceedings
*Preparing legal documentation
*Attending court hearings
*Executing warrants
*Attending evictions where required
Customer Service & Resident Support*Respond to resident enquiries regarding rent, service charges, and income-related matters.
*Offer advice and support to vulnerable residents, ensuring a person-centred approach.
*Identify opportunities to support residents through external agencies, benefits advice, and financial inclusion services.
*Take rent and service charge payments over the phone in a secure and professional manner.
Casework & Administration*Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using the council’s housing systems.
*Work collaboratively with internal teams, including Housing Management, Support Teams, and Legal Services.
*Contribute to income performance targets and ensure compliance with policies and legislation.
Skills & Experience Required*Previous experience in income collection, rent arrears management, or tenancy sustainment within housing.
*Experience working in a local authority or social housing provider is highly desirable.
*Strong understanding of housing legislation, income recovery processes, and court proceedings.
*Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to support vulnerable residents.
*Ability to manage a busy caseload and work independently.
*Confident handling payments and sensitive financial information.
