Job Description:
Youth Worker / Teaching Assistant
*Location: Loughborough
*Pay Rate: £14 per hour
*Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm
*Job Type: Temporary (with opportunity for long-term work)
Join a supportive and forward-thinking Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Loughborough as a Youth Worker / Teaching Assistant. This role is ideal for someone resilient, adaptable, and empathetic, dedicated to supporting young people who have faced barriers to education and require a personalised, therapeutic, and behaviour-led approach to learning.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Work closely with pupils displaying challenging behaviour, who may have social, emotional, or mental health (SEMH) needs.
*Build trust, encourage positive choices, and support both academic and emotional development.
*Provide 1:1 and small-group support using de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support techniques.
*Assist with personalised learning activities and classroom routines.
*Build strong, professional relationships to encourage progress and re-engagement with education.
*Collaborate with teachers, behaviour mentors, and pastoral staff to create a supportive learning environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Experience working with young people with challenging behaviour is essential.
*Background in youth work, mentoring, PRUs, SEMH schools, or alternative provision is highly desirable.
*Strong behaviour management skills with a calm, confident approach.
*Demonstrated resilience, empathy, and the ability to remain consistent and patient.
*Ability to motivate disengaged learners and act as a positive role model.
