Job Description:
An established and growing specialty chemicals manufacturer with a global customer base is seeking a Technical Manager to join its site leadership team. The organisation supplies high-value chemical products used in the manufacture of critical pharmaceuticals and advanced technology applications.
Reporting directly to the Site Director, this senior role plays a key part in driving operational excellence, quality, and safety across the site. You will hold direct responsibility for Production and Development functions, working closely with other site leaders to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities * Champion a strong health, safety and environmental culture across all technical departments.
* Ensure compliance with site HSE procedures through regular site walks and incident investigations.
* Promote employee welfare and continuous improvement in safety performance.
* Lead daily operational planning for Production and Development teams in a dynamic, spot-order manufacturing environment.
* Act as a senior technical escalation point for troubleshooting across Production, QC, R&D, Maintenance, and Logistics.
* Ensure employees are trained, competent, and supported in their professional development.
* Manage performance, conduct, and disciplinary matters where required.
* Review production records and QC data to ensure full compliance with quality standards.
* Collect, analyse, and interpret KPIs to identify trends and measure business performance.
Requirements
* Degree in Organic Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or a minimum of 5 years’ relevant industrial experience within fine chemicals or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
* Proven leadership experience within operations or development in a regulated manufacturing environment.
* Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting capability in laboratory and/or production settings.
* Demonstrated people-management experience in team leader or management roles.
* Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
* Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma).
