Financial Controller - Poole

Are you an experienced and qualified Finance professional looking for a standalone role where you can take full ownership of the finance function? My client, a successful and growing SME is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to join their team in Poole.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact. You’ll be the go-to person for all things finance, working closely with the leadership team and external accountant to support the company’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities*Running the finance function end to end
*Oversee day-to-day accounting operations using Xero
*Produce monthly management accounts and cashflow forecasts
*Prepare and issue client quotations
*Raise accurate invoices and manage billing cycles
*Run payroll and ensure PAYE compliance
*Manage the finance inbox and respond to queries
*Handle subcontractor payments and resolve related queries
*Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and suppliers
*Carry out bookkeeping duties for the business
*Complete VAT returns and submissions
*Liaise with the external accountant
*Prepare year-end packs
*Provide proactive commercial insight and financial planning support
About You*Experienced in a similar finance role (Finance Manager / Financial Controller / Senior Accountant)
*Strong working knowledge of Xero
*Confident producing management accounts and cashflow forecasts
*Comfortable working in a standalone role within an SME
*Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
*Able to communicate clearly with internal teams, clients, and suppliers
*Proactive, commercially minded, and able to support business decision-making
