Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (Reception)
Location: Central Brighton
Contract: Fixed Term until end of academic year - PART TIME
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £95 per day About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, patient and proactive Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception-aged child with an Autism diagnosis. The child has significantly delayed language and communication skills and is currently at a preverbal stage of development. This role will involve helping him access learning, supporting his sensory and communication needs, and creating a positive, nurturing environment where he can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide consistent 1:1 support within the Reception classroom and outdoor learning areas.
*Implement strategies to support sensory-based play and communication development.
*Use visual supports, modelling and responsive interactions to encourage engagement.
*Support the child with personal care needs, including toileting, as he is not yet toilet trained.
*Create a calm, structured learning environment tailored to his sensory preferences.
*Encourage and support his interests, including his strong enjoyment of outdoor spaces and bubble play.
*Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider team to deliver appropriate interventions.
*Contribute to monitoring progress and maintaining accurate, confidential records.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
*Experience supporting children with Autism and/or significant communication delays (desirable).
*An understanding of early childhood development and sensory-based learning.
*A patient, nurturing, and child-centred approach.
*The ability to work collaboratively within a team.
*Willingness to support personal care needs.
*Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
