Role Overview
The Accounts Assistant will be a key member of the finance team, supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business. The role involves accounting duties, payroll support, and assisting with month-end and year-end processes. This position is ideal for someone looking to develop their finance career, with structured support and a clear route to progress into a Finance Manager role.
Key Responsibilities
*Accurately process purchase and sales invoices
*Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
*Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and supporting documentation
*Calculate employee payroll hours using timesheets and clock-in systems for payroll submission
*Assist with VAT returns and statutory reporting
*Support monthly bank reconciliations and account reviews
*Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve finance-related queries
*Maintain well-organised digital and paper-based filing systems
*Support the Finance Manager with year-end processes and audit preparation
*Carry out ad hoc finance and sales administration duties as required
Essential Skills & Experience
*Previous experience in an accounts or finance support role
*Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail
*Competent in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, or similar)
*Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
*Strong organisational and time management skills
*Clear communication skills with a proactive and positive approach
Desirable
*Experience supporting payroll or working with time-tracking systems
*AAT qualification or currently studying towards one
